Roofing FAQ

Can metal roofing panels be installed directly over my old, worn out shingles?

In most cases the answer is yes since metal panels weigh only 1/3 as much as shingles. This option gets rid of the cost and problem of getting rid of the old shingles. The best way to do this is to attach 1” x 4” or 2” x 4” firing strips at 24” o/c parallel to the eaves and ridge; we suggest you do not try this yourself.

How are metal roofing panels attached?

Our professional installers will use stainless steel screws— color matched to the color of your roof. Screw fasteners are preferred over nails for superior weather tightness and resistance to pullout. Fasteners are most typically spaced 24″ o/c.

Can insulation be installed under the metal roofing panels?

Of course! Among the types of insulation that can be used is 3/4″ insulation to make better energy efficiency.

Is metal roofing noisy when it rains?

Our metal roofing installations do not make excessive noise. Our metal roof panels are normally installed over the existing roof and plywood on the outside, and come with a layer of sound-damping insulation and your drywall ceiling on the inside. These materials combined help to dampen the sound.

How long will a metal roof last?

A metal roof has an indefinite life expectancy and a finish warranty of 40 years. Resistant substrates and long-life finishes for long-term performance. Our metal roofs require minimal maintenance and increases life-cycle cost savings.
